Joshua Valinsky, APRN

About your Provider:

“I follow the latest developments within the field of mental health, and as a part of that, I offer pharmacogenetic testing to help inform medication decisions.”

What was your path to becoming a Nurse Practitioner?

I worked as a registered nurse in a hospital setting and summer camps and discovered a love for psychiatry and a natural gift for alleviating suffering. After a decade of experience as a nurse, I attended the University of Pennsylvania and enrolled in a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner program. I have enjoyed caring for patients in private practice in Connecticut since 2018.

What should someone know about working with you?

I collaborate with numerous area therapists to offer medication management services to their therapy clientele. My specialties include psychopharmacology for anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I utilize a thoughtful, gentle approach to improving mental health. Medications are offered when indicated and prescribed using the lowest effective doses. I use the fewest possible medicines to help patients feel better.

What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?

I follow the latest developments within the field of mental health, and as a part of that, I offer pharmacogenetic testing to help inform medication decisions. Patients have the option to have a simple cheek swab taken either in the office or at home. A comprehensive report is then generated to help reduce the trial and error of prescribing medications.

How would patients describe your personality and approach?

My patients describe me as kind, nonjudgmental, and intelligent. I take a compassionate approach to alleviate suffering, and I truly care for my patient’s health and well-being.
